Lesson 2 : How to hold the guitar

Congratulation ! You bought your first guitar! This is the beginning of your adventure as a Guitar Hero, who knows you may be the future star of the guitar!

This lesson will focus on holding the guitar, it’s a key step to be able to play while being comfortable and relaxed. It would be silly to catch tendonitis by playing!! I'm going to show you some basic postures that you can adopt to play properly.

The first position you can take is the position I call relaxed.

1. Start by sitting upright on a chair

2. Then, if you are right-handed, put your right foot on a footrest. It is a small step on which to put your foot so that it is raised. If you don't have one, you can also cross your legs or use an old dictionary in the meantime that will do the trick
3. Put the hollow of your guitar on your right thigh and use your left hand to update the notes on the neck and that's it !

Then we have the more academic position.

1. Sit roof straight on your chair

2. This time, raise your other leg to put the hollow of your guitar
This position allows you to have a raised handle so that you don't have to stretch your arm to fetch notes and have better visibility on the handle. In these two positions, your guitar is supported on your leg, your elbow is supported on the guitar and the body is supported on your chest

Finally, we have the standing position if you have a strap.

1. Your guitar should not be too low or you will find it difficult to strum the strings.
2. The neck of your guitar should be tilted up to allow you to be comfortable playing notes.
3. Your forearm will rest on the upper body of your guitar

Here you are, now you can start to play ! I took those pictures on GuitarTonton. A great French blog which share guitar tips !
