Lesson 4 : How to strum the strings with a mediator
Well done, you now know how to use your left hand on the neck to play chords. In this part we will focus on the work of the right hand, the one who strum the guitar strings. There are two ways to strum the strings, with your hand or with a guitar pick. I advise you if you are a beginner to take a pick, it is simpler and more practical to start.
Playing with the wrist: To scratch the strings, it is not your arm that has to move, everything is in the wrist. He’s the one who does all the movement, your forearm should stay pretty much still.
Tilt your pick: If you strum the strings with your pick perpendicular to the strings, the sound will not be very fluid. It is therefore better to tilt your pick slightly when you play. If you are scratching downward, then tilt your pick about 45 ° upwards. And conversely, if you scratch upwards, tilt your pick about 45 ° downwards.
